3T40 - The 3-speed gearbox from the "Turbo-Hydramatic" automatic transmission family was intended for FWD cars with an engine capacity of 2.0 l to 3.1 l. The first modifications of the 3L40 did not have a torque converter. In 1995, with the introduction of electronic control, the letter "E" was added to the name of the gearbox, changing its name to 3T40E.
