722.0 - The three-speed gearbox was introduced in 1070 as the most powerful of the series, starting with the W3A040 W3B050 models, and the reinforced W3B050 (722.003) was fitted exclusively to the W116 450 SEL 6.9 model. This automatic gearbox is used with the V8 engines as a three-speed unit.

722.1 - The four-speed gearbox was introduced in 1970 as the last in the series. It was fitted to cars with L4, L5, and L6 engines. During normal operation, the gearbox starts in 2nd gear, but when the kickdown function (full throttle) is engaged or the shift lever is moved to the L position, 1st gear is used.

722.2 - The 4-speed gearbox first appeared on the market in 1970. It was installed in cars dating back to the 1980s, and owners often have it restored to preserve their rare car.
