4L40E - The 4-speed gearbox appeared on the market in 1998 as a successor to the 4L30E and was installed in the BMW 318. The design basis of this automatic gearbox was the 4L60E gearbox. In 2007, its initial development was completed in favor of the 6-speed 6L45 gearbox, which appeared on the market.

5L40E, A5S360R - The 5-speed gearbox was introduced in 1999, and since 2000 has been widely installed in RWD and AWD cars from GM, BMW (3, 5, X5), Opel, Saturn, Cadillac and Land Rover with engines from 2.0 l to 3.6 l. It can develop 340 Nm of torque. Its design base is the 4L60E.

5L40E / A5S360R

5L50E, A5S390R - 5L40E gearbox modification designed for Cadillac STS and SRX with 4.6L V8 engines. Develops 430 Nm of torque. It was also installed in the BMW X5 under the name A5S390R. This gearbox requires experience in repair.
