4L60, TH700-R4, 4L60E - The 4-speed TH700R4 gearbox from the "Turbo-Hydramatic" gearbox family appeared on the market in 1982 and after a few minor modifications was renamed 4L60. It was installed on RWD and AWD cars with engines from 3.0 l to 6.0 l. In 1996, the control in this automatic transmission was changed to electronic, and the name was changed to 4L60E. Another modification was also introduced - a gear shift solenoid, which improved the smoothness of gear changes and acceleration, as well as a TCC solenoid valve. In 2001, another modification of this gearbox was released called 4L65E with a torque of 515 Nm. In 2001-2003, further modifications were made to the hydraulics and electronics.

4L60 / TH700-R4 / THM700-R4

4L65E, 4L70E - The 4-speed gearbox was released in 2001 as an improved version of the 4L60. Reinforced planetary gears with five gears and an output shaft were used here to increase the durability of the 6.0-liter Vortec engine, which developed 450 Nm of torque. For gasoline engines, a modification called 4L70E was released with a speed sensor located in the pump (as in the 4L65E). Many components are interchangeable in these gearboxes. 4L65E had many problems, such as: rapid wear of the friction linings in the converter, damage to the solenoid valves and valve bodies by heavily contaminated grease, stretching of the brake band at 50 thousand km and aggressive driving, weak 3-4 basket, damage to the distributor plate at 200 thousand km, damaged oil pump.
