M4VA / MLYA / SLYA

M4VA, SLYA, SLYA - The M4VA continuously variable transmission (CVT) was introduced in 1995 in the Honda Civic with a 1.6-liter engine and was installed in Honda models for the US market until 2000. The Multimatic was the first CVT designed by Honda. In 2000, the first improvements were made, changing the gearbox to the MLYA. Shortly thereafter, further changes were made, including an update to the SLYA gearbox. The SLYA modification was installed from 2002 in the Honda Civic with a 1.7-liter engine and later in the Honda Fit with an electric motor of 1.5 liters.
